Video - I Got the Answer

One-sheet

With a blast of creative energy fueled by an enthusiasm for making music together, a stellar combination of Athens, Georgia musicians formed SUPERCLUSTER, the brainchild of PYLON vocalist Vanessa Hay and Hannah Jones of THE NEW SOUND OF NUMBERS. Spanning the history of Athens music from the early days of the B-52's and R.E.M. to the present, SUPERCLUSTER is a collaborative effort, featuring the talents of members of PYLON, THE OLIVIA TREMOR CONTROL/CIRCULATORY SYSTEM, DEERHUNTER, CASPER & THE COOKIES, THE NEW SOUND OF NUMBERS / SOUND HOUSES, INSTRUMENTS/GNARLS BARKLEY/LIL' WAYNE, and BOB HAY & THE JOLLY BEGGARS/ SQUALLS.

Descriptions of SUPERCLUSTER's music range from trance/dance to "Appalachian Wave," due in no small part to an eclectic combination of elements - three female vocalists, upbeat rhythms, violin, cello, mandolin, clarinets, acoustic guitar, keyboard, and angular electric guitar.

This is the band that every musician in Athens wants to join, as evidenced by the inclusion of its two newest members, Heather McIntosh and Brian Poole (B.P. Helium). McIntosh is best known for her performances with INSTRUMENTS, GNARLS BARKLEY , and LIL' WAYNE. She plays cello on the new SUPERCLUSTER CD, Waves. Poole is a long-time member of OF MONTREAL. Although B.P. does not play on the CD, he made his first appearance as a member of the group when SUPERCLUSTER opened for the B-52's in Mableton, Georgia in August 2009.

The new CD, Waves, is also one of the last documents of the guitar skills of Randy Bewley from PYLON, who passed away in February 2009. Bradford Cox, native Athenian and member of Atlanta band DEERHUNTER and a longtime fan of PYLON, stepped in to help SUPERCLUSTER finish the recording. The CD was recorded and mixed at Bel Air Studios by producer Jason NeSmith of CASPER & THE COOKIES. NeSmith also assisted in laying down guitar tracks.

In drawing from the support and love of the Athens music community, SUPERCLUSTER band members feel that Waves is, as Julie Phillips wrote in the Athens Banner-Herald, "a testament not only to Bewley's talent, but to the unit of the group as a whole, now without Bewley." As one example, the final recorded track on the CD came from a group jam that Bradford Cox suggested the band try while Jason NeSmith was preparing the studio for recording another song. Even without Bewley, the imaginative, playful side of the group continues to emerge.

Brave Tree

This is a song about a Tree
Who was growing in the wall
She tried so hard to live
Thru the summer and the fall
This is about a Tree
Who lived close to all the cars
She sprouted up and out
And tried to touch the stars
She tried to touch the stars
She tried to touch the stars

Sunflower Clock

It points to the hour
as it follows the sun
Under it's power
Yellow flower moves

Magic clock follows
our sun's rays
while the earth moves
thru the days

Food for the birds
Out in the fields
Dance with the flowers
Nothing revealed

Are we like flowers?
Are we clocks too?
Do we accept?
Do we move too?

The River

The river is flooding and the women are a sighing
For their babies a crying. They can't play outside.
The knots in my back are twisting.
The knots in my back are twisting.
Spring has come and I know that 'cause I can't feel the flowers blooming out of my ears.

I Got the Answer

Hidden in Plain view
It was there all along
Hidden in front of us
It was there all along

I got the answer
You got the answer too
I got the answer
You got the answer too

Far across the gulf
It was there all along
Far across the gulf
It was there all along

I got the answer
You got the answer too
I got the answer
You got the answer too

Far across the sea
It was there all along
Far across the sea
It was there all along

I got the answer
You got the answer too
I got the answer
You got the answer too

The Mermaid's Tale

He said, "why?" and the other said, "how?"
as they tossed me back over the prow.
I've lived for centuries under the foam.
I've sat on my rock using a comb.

As they talk through their sails and ropes,
I have no legs and they have no hopes
Of ever lying next to me.
I'm the lonely one the fishers set free.

As I pass all the ships,
I call out to them,
"Who is the king on land and of men?"
If they give the wrong answer, I go into a rage.
I smash their ships and cross them off of my page.

I'm a mermaid under the sea.
I hate tuna, it's not for me.
I need someone to understand
The sea is lonely without any friends.

Copper Palo

We were given a gift long ago.
When we slept, where did it go?
Copper Palo is where you're from.
Copper Palo is where you're from.

If you're still here in one year's time,
Tap my shoulder to let me know.
Tap my shoulder. If you're still here on the fairway.
If you're around.

It's important to tell me where you're from.
You were here and now you're gone.

The Night I Died

The night I died was a long night.
The forecast called for rain.
Fire in the alley, cat in a box.
Everything was different yet everything's the same.

Too Many Eights

Why are six and seven afraid?
Because seven ate nine,
now seven's after mine—
—too many eights.

Nothing was real-why do you suppose?
Reality has no clothes,
just follow your nose—
—too many eights.

I was wondering about all
these things in my head.
Some things are better left unsaid
—too many eights

I was wondering about all
these things in my head.
Some things are better left unsaid
—too many eights

Anyone

Used to be the only one, the only one for me.
Used to have the key to a secret destiny.
Come on, come on, come on, now.
You meet me in the street.
Gee, it's a treat to see you ,too.
Just like anyone.

Used to be the cognescenti in your limousine.
Used to be so fancy-free, but it was only money
It's gone, it's gone, it's gone now.
You meet me in the street.
Gee, it's a treat to see you ,too.
Just like anyone.

Time to End the War

Are you fed up?
Are you tired of being tired?
Tired of being tired?
Tired of all the lies?
(yeah-yeah)

Do you want freedom?
Is it time to end the war?
Do you want freedom?
Is it time to end the war?
(yeah-yeah)

I'm not an opressor
and neither are you
Are you tired of that job
Ready to be thru?
(yeah-yeah)

Do you want freedom?
Is it time to end the war?
Do you want freedom?
Do you want to follow thru?
(yeah-yeah)

Take my hand and dance.
Take my hand and dance.
I'm going home again.
I'm going home again.
